One item you may want to try is a new device called AquaJoe. It's a drink powder holder/dispenser. It eliminates the need for a lot of single-serve packaging. You can see it at www.aquajoe.com.

Great ideas! I have been carrying my own reusable utensils and chopsticks as well as bags and water bottle for over a year. It takes a little while to get into the habit, but finally you just do it automatically.

I also carry a reusable glass drinking straw! (Guaranteed not to break.)

I'm in the U.S. and purchased these things through to-goware.com and glassdharma.com.

I write a blog, Fake Plastic Fish, about alternatives to plastic and other ways to reduce waste. You might find it useful.

In fact Jesslee: these might seem small actions, and I usually prefer to promote big things that can make a huge difference. But in this case, the numbers are BIG and this small actions made by millions of people can have an enormous impact...

I started to be eco-friendly last year. Everytime I buy a bread or any small stuff in the conbini, I try to say "sonomama ii" and just put them on my bag, so no plastic bag wasted. I also have a bag for my groceries.. Some grocery stores like OK! encourages people to bring their own bags by putting a price per plastic bag...

Nice write-up, Gian!

Regards,
Jesslee
